Just Listed - Urban Downtown Phoenix Historic Craftsman Bungalow

Thursday, March 22nd, 2012 at 12:20pm. 271 Views, 0 Comments.

Just released into the market in the Roosevelt historic district in downtown Phoenix.

This quintessential craftsman bungalow is a classic historic Roosevelt property that retains the historic character and charm yet it’s well suited for modern urban living with all the comfort and conveniences.

This is dream home. As an agent I feel proud to represent such a well preserved and well modernized home. Unlike so many homes that have been updated this one leaves very little to be desired. Simply lovely.

Please check out the property specific page for all the details and huge photos.

Check out the dedicated page for this listing.

Arcadia Lite A Neighborhood Between The Giants

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012 at 9:00pm. 468 Views, 0 Comments.

A wonderful small neighborhood with ranch homes, palm trees, lots of character and a strong sense of community.

arcadia lite

The Biltmore, Arcadia or the Camelback Corridor it's not.  This area is in disputed territory, no one knows where it belongs.  Now at least it's a bit clearer.  This is Arcadia Lite.

While not Arcadia proper the sentiment is more toward the east then west. Arcadia Lite is bound by Campbell to Indian School and 32nd St. to 36th St.  The name has been around  while but only recently did the street signs receive that added neighborhood sign as pictured above. There are about 500 homes represented in this neighborhood.

They are mostly ranch homes of medium size from the mid century and many remodeled homes.  While still in a

Popular Central Phoenix Modern Neighborhoods

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011 at 11:44am. 136 Views, 0 Comments.

Central Phoenix saw it’s biggest boom along with the entire city of Phoenix after World War II and at a perfect time for modernism to take hold.  This was the period of great growth for Phoenix with both military and non-military people moving here: along with them came the visionaries of modernism: Ralph Haver and Al Beadle to name just a couple. They took on this city with a verve building and designing both custom modern homes a few entire subdivisions. Amongst those modern subdivisions are a few that stand out.Marlen Grove - Marlen Grove is located in North Central Phoenix with modern homes designed by architect Ralph Haver. It’s often called the Circle of Power by locals in the know. Both designers and architects have made this little…

Favorite Places In Phoenix - Lola Coffee

Monday, March 7th, 2011 at 2:57pm. 138 Views, 0 Comments.

Coffee shops are one of the newer staples in the urban Phoenix scene: newer as in the last few years there's been a boom of locally owned coffee shops with character and most are in Central Phoenix.

The photos above is a small section of a new huge and massive steel and concrete table outside of Lola Coffee in Midtown Phoenix. I remember seeing the table for sale on the Modern Phoenix classifieds. It was a great purchase and I'm glad it's somewhere more people can enjoy. In fact, one of the reasons I like this location so much is because it has several different seating options. I know that may sound banal, but it's an importnat element of any place.

You can sit outside on a bench, a table with 3-4 seats, two classroom chair-table combos or at

Modernism In Phoenix: First Christian Church by Frank Lloyd Wright

Monday, November 29th, 2010 at 3:21pm. 188 Views, 0 Comments.

Phoenix in Photos. A look at a F.L. Wright designed church located in North Central Phoenix.

photos: Artur Ciesielski

North Central Phoenix has quite a few treats for aficionados of modernism.  Amongst the residential modern homes are also some public or semi-public spaces like the First Christian Church on 7th Avenue. This church was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1950.  It is constructed from stone, a lot of stone, and concrete. The original design was changed slightly as the first clients went belly-up and the church was not built until the early 1970's.  This is s wonderful example of Wright's architectural philosophy. It's a building that's quite striking and alluring from a distance and it has a lot to offer at a closer…

Willo, Brentwood and Windsor Square Historic District Home Tours: Spring 2010

    Monday, February 8th, 2010 at 2:53pm. 143 Views, 0 Comments.

Both Brentwood (Feb. 28th) and Willo (Feb. 14th) will be holding home tours early 2010 and Windsor Square (March 7th) is not far behind.

Drive around Willo these last few weeks and you can't miss the fact that there will be a home tour soon.  In fact the Willo Historic District home tour is coming Sunday, February 14th.

If you're not familiar with the beauty and quality of historic homes, then I urge you to explore them.  When well restored these homes are like fine art: comparable to any piece of art like hand made violins or exceptional furniture, just on a larger scale.

Buy tickets  and see which home will be on tour here:  also if you drive the neighborhood the homes which will be open have sings.

Another home tour is in Brentwood, a

North Central Avenue in Phoenix - A Bit of History

    Saturday, February 6th, 2010 at 10:00pm. 156 Views, 0 Comments.

Get to know North Central Phoenix and the history of its heart: North Central Avenue. A beautiful area with a rich history.

North Central Phoenix is an amazing part of this valley, one amongst several and each has something different to offer.  NCN has a rich long history, long for Greater Phoenix, in which it was able to come into it's own with deep roots, rich niches and a unique sense of place. We have written many articles on this subject: of course, because this is where we do a lot of business and it's also where we spend a lot of time.

While the boundaries of North Central Phoenix are up for discussion there are certain aspects which are ingrained and certain. North Central Avenue is one of these: it's truly the start of North Central

Rancho Solano Neighbohrood In North Central Phoenix

    Saturday, November 28th, 2009 at 6:02pm. 359 Views, 0 Comments.

A prestigious, beautiful neighborhood full of spectacular houses and character located in the well established North Central Phoenix. Rancho Solano is a small community in North Central Phoenix, part of the extension of the original Orangewood subdivision developed by W.J. Murphy.

It's the only neighborhood which has pavers for a side walk along Central Ave which make riding a bike quite a vibrating experience.  This is where trees take precedence over streets and where art sits on front lawns.

This is a very beautiful neighborhood of about 90 homes.  It's characterized by large lots; most are 20,000 s.f. or larger and many are up to an acre; the lawns are green with lush well manicured grass.  You won't see any two story homes.  It's bordered

What Types of Trees Line North Central Avenue

    Friday, September 25th, 2009 at 9:00pm. 182 Views, 0 Comments.

Two main types of trees line Central Ave north of Bethany Home and there's some interesting history to go along with the answer.North Central Avenue is a beautiful street from about Camelback up to Sunnyslope.  It has magnificent homes on large lots and lush landscaping: both historic and new, but we'll get into more detail about North Central Avenue and North Central. What I'd like to get into now are the trees that line Central Ave. and some history because it is quite interesting.Central Ave. was originally laid out in 1895 by William J. Murphy as part of a grand development of rural homes for upper income residents close to city, Phoenix that is.  The area was not annexed into Phoenix until 1959.Look at the illustration above.  If you were to…
