Phoenix Historic Neighborhood, Encanto-Palmcroft

About Encanto Palmcroft, its Residents and Homes

Encanto-Palmcroft Historic District in Phoenix is bound by Seventh Ave to 15th Ave, and McDowell Road on the south to Encanto Park and the Encanto Golf Course in the North.  It was designated a historic neighborhood in March 1987 and expanded in June 99 and September 2005 and November 2006.  A map is available here

The population is 1,000 with a median age of 38.  This neighborhood has some of the earliest fine homes in Phoenix and they were build with quality and to stand for a long time and they remain some of the most stately homes in Phoenix.  Many describe it as romantic, elegant and exclusive.  Exclusive it is with many of the residents being CEO's, doctors, and successful business owners.

The streets are curving to slow traffic and that creates a scene unlike the Cris cross streets of the rest of the city.  Many of the Encanto-Palmcroft homes are two story and the architectural styles include Spanish Colonial Revival and Stately Ranch Homes and Mediterranean Revival mansions.  Buying a home is like buying along the Phoenix Central Corridor, The Biltmore or Arcadia.

The grand homes rarely come on the market and prices now start over $800,000 for a fix-up and go to $1.5 million and even $2.o million for ready to move in homes like this one. This is a good example of a well preserved historic home with a double lot. If you drive the valley you will quickly notice that this Phoenix neighborhood along with the other historic neighborhood is quite different from most of the valley.

It's lush and green with large yard covered in grass and lots of mature trees, and not just desert trees but lush examples of Chinese elms.  Encanto Palmcroft has an annual home tour to allow people to see these historic homes for a nominal fee.
