Paradise Valley, AZ

About Paradise Valley, Arizona the location and real estate

Paradise Valley is a small city in the middle of Phoenix.  Its population is only about 15,000.  The size of the town is part of its unique character.  It’s not only a great place to live, its home to 12 resorts that draw people in from around the country and the world.

The location within greater Phoenix, the natural beauty surrounding it, the town government and the exclusivity of the real estate have made Paradise Valley one of the countries 50 wealthiest idyllic communities.

Paradise Valley attracts wealth, because of its natural desert beauty, the magnificent views and the proximity to the city.  Commerce is limited to resorts, several medical offices, churches and schools.  The streets have very limited street lighting, few sidewalks.  In fact, part of the charm is the lack of sidewalks, the rugged asphalt and the partially tamed natural desert which is the landscaping of choice for most homes.   Paradise Valley is in the desert not on it like much of the surrounding Phoenix city.

Amongst the 15,000 residents you will find regular blue collar workers to white collar professionals to famous actors, politicians and movie stars .You will also find a lot of people from the colder regions who spend the winters here.

What is also unique about the homes in Paradise Valley is that you can have a beautiful new large 10,000sf home next to one that is original from the 1950's.  Though some of the homes are still from the mid last century the surroundings save them, at least on the outside.

This is a prime location for tear-downs, split lots, remodeling and rebuilding.   Each home is custom, there are very few track homes here, though several such communities existed and have appeared in the last 10 years.   Just as the age and quality varies so do architectural styles.  You can see many Tuscan style homes, Santa Barbara, Ranch, soft contemporary and ultra modern homes, even on the same street and it works.  It works because of the large lots, lush landscaping and often whole home obscuring oleanders.  Homes in Paradise Valley are expensive.  You can still find nice homes for under $1,000,000 but the median home price in Paradise Valley is well over $1.6 million (2007).

Schools in Paradise Valley:

Another good reason to live in Paradise Valley is the schools.   Schools are part of the Scottsdale Unified School District.  They are all “high performing” to “excelling”

Schools that serve Paradise Valley are listed here.

Shopping/Dining in Paradise Valley:

There is no lack of shopping and dining.  Since Paradise Valley is in the middle of Greater Phoenix, almost everything is nearby; The Biltmore, The Borgata, North Scottsdale shopping, The Scottsdale Fashion Square are all a quick drive away.  If you are more demanding then the airport is only 15 minutes away.  Just as shopping is nearby, so are dozens if not hundreds of excellent restaurants.

You will not find any good shopping in Paradise Valley itself, but what you will find are 12 resorts, from the modern Sanctuary Resort which started as a tennis club to the 200 acre Paradise Valley Country Club which was established in 1953 and just renovated.

Then of course, climb Camelback Mountain with its spectacular valley wide views.  The mountain itself is beautiful as well.  Then climb the highest peak in Greater Phoenix, Squaw Peak (now called Piestewa Peak).
