When most Phoenicians think of the Biltmore area, luxury living, great shopping and good dining come to mind.

The Biltmore was once owned and operated by the Wrigley family.  You know the chewing gum.  The Biltmore was designed by a student of Frank Lloyd Wright and the influence is unmistakable.
Currently the resort is part of the exclusive Waldorf-Astoria Collection.

The lawns are green and The Biltmore is homes from the 20’s in styles such a Revival, Mediterranean and Spanish Colonial., but its also newer contemporary homes and large condo complex like the Cloisters..  There are courtyards with fountains, and adobe walls.  The Biltmore residences are mostly beautiful with the less attractive ones being replaced.

Though the resort forms the heart of the Biltmore the neighborhood is now its own destination and I suspect could easily stand on its own, but history cannot be denied.

The Biltmore area has extended beyond those borders down to Campbell on the South and the I51 freeway to the West and 32nd St. to the East, this is the border with Arcadia, but just as with many neighborhood the borders are in flux depending on whom you ask.

South of Camelback you will find a mixture of houses, townhouses, and condos of all styles from older ranch homes to new contemporary condos and Tuscan style townhouses.   You can find homes in all price ranges from the low six figures to several million dollars.

As I mentioned before the dining experience in the Biltmore area is fine, indeed.  You can have a good time and an enjoyable day on a budget as there are many popular restaurants such a California Pizza Kitchen to The Cheese Cake Factory but for the more demanding there are restaurants like Sam’s Southwest Grill which as excellent food with lots of flavor.

Then there is Christopher’s Fermier Brasserie.  This is one of my favorite places to go. The food is simply great and the atmosphere complements it well with great music and a interesting mix of people to watch.  The former restaurant are located at the Biltmore Fashion park a shopping destination in itself.  Beyond the Fashion park dining experience just increases.

The Biltmore is at the foot of the Phoenix Mountains with Piestewa Peak also know as Squaw Peak a focal point and a great place to hike and enjoy the immense city and beautiful views.  The sunsets from there are simple breath taking, especially during the monsoon season.   You can also walk or bike the canal to the East or West.
