North Central Phoenix has a very long history, for the Southwest that is, which stretches well over 100 years. The Murphy Bridle Path is still in use to this day. It provides shady unique trail for walking, jogging or cycling. It is a beautiful very green neighborhood with few gated communities, huge grass covered lawns and lots of mature trees, especially along the Central Corridor. The yards and greenery fade toward the north and east where the yards and homes do get smaller.
Architecture is very diverse. You'll find Vintage ranch, Spanish revival, Tuscan, Territorial, Santa Barbara, Modern and Contemporary styles. But, the prevailing style is ranch and it melds well into the terrain. The most prominent homes are in the Central Corridor yet not exclusively. Other newer communities have since appeared. It's often, these newer communities which nave taken on the Tuscan trends that plays foul here.
North Central Phoenix will continue to be a very popular location because it simply has so many of the characteristics people desire.
- Location: It's called Central for a good reason. It's so central many people fore-go the car in place of a bicycle or a scooter. Then for others, on the south tip of North Central Phoenix there is the new light rail.
- Shopping: From the Biltmore, to a major mall shopping is close but not too close for comfort. You don't see huge acres of shopping malls interfering with the residential architecture.
- Dining: While you do have more dining choices in South Scottsdale or the Biltmore are its close enough to those locations plus there is a growing choice of dining not only in the North Central neighborhood but in Midtown and Downtown Phoenix. There are some very good dining choices around 16th St. and Bethany Home with restaurants like the Phoenix Grille or Rokerij.
- Business: One of the major benefits of this central location is that the major business districts are truly within a short commute. That is why, like I mentioned earlier, you'll see quite a few cyclists heading to work. Downtown Phoenix, and 24th & Camelback are the major district but truly this location is very densely packed with businesses.
- Character: This is what makes North Central Phoenix truly unique. These former suburbs are now urban. The homes range from custom mansions along Central Corridor to resort homes like the Pointe, condos, small ranch homes and a sprinkling of contemporary town-homes and houses. There are no cookie cutter ghettos here.
- History: There are three historic areas in North Central Phoenix. The two historic neighborhood: Medlock Place, and Windsor Place plus the irrigation canal and tree lined Murphy Bridle Path along Central Ave.
