| August 22, 2007 | | This world-class contemporary museum and outdoor sculpture garden is perfect for those who enjoy the fine arts. | The Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art was founded in 1999 and is focused on modern and contemporary art, architecture and design. The Minimalist building was designed by award-winning architect Will Bruder with five separate galleries that showcase both permanent exhibitions and constantly changing exhibitions. Outside the building is an incredible outdoor sculpture garden that harbors the artist James Turrell's famous Knight Rise, and Scrim Wall the gigantic curtain of shimmering glass by James Carpenter Design Associates. The museum also hosts the fabulous SMoCA Nights, a stylish and eclectic fashion show that allows guests to to enjoy avant-garde art and progressive music. Another creative initiative of the museum is the introduction of the Contemporary Catalyst Award. This award honors local entrepreneurial individuals that help to elevate art, architecture and/or design in Scottsdale. Upcoming exhibitions at the museum are; Seeing the Unseen: Photographs by Harold E. Edgerton, In Wonderland: Animations by Christine Rebet, Hiraki Sawa and Shahzia Sikander, and Right to Print: Segura Publishing Company.
