The desert in and around Phoenix is blooming as spring approaches. Winter left as fast as it came, unlike as year when it was colder then it has been for over 10 years, plus it did not rain much.
Warm weather and plenty of rain during last fall and winter means seeds had time to germinate. I haven’t seen the desert so green since about 2003 or 2004. From a distance the green on the hills look very inviting. It makes one want to lay down on the soft fresh green ground, until, of course you get up close and see that greenery is very delicate and laying down on the ground would sooner result in added blood circulation and a rough rock massage. Either way a green desert is very alluring, inviting and inspiring.
A few days ago we had a chance to go hiking in Phoenix Mountains as the beginning of a promise to do much more hiking and enjoy rare lush desert. I took a few photos that you see here but photos are nothing to the real thing.
Most of the desert flowers are very small and don’t show up well in photographs so go out and enjoy them. It may be a few more years before we get enough rain at the right time to make the desert so green again.
