East Mesa and The Groves Area
Most of Mesa is know for its citrus groves that spread for miles and miles across the city. Most of the orchards are gone: some remain, but the the city and the citizens have done much to preserve this history and many neighborhoods covered with citrus trees and in fact have a mandate to maintain that character.
This is where The Groves areas of Mesa gets it's name. While it is mostly single family homes today, a reminder of it's history remains with mature citrus trees that surround the communities. It's a wonderful tradition to carry-on, the scent of orange blossoms, the lushness or the trees and of course the delicious fruit in abundance ...
Valencia Grove, too, used to be an orchard. When the homes were being built home owners had to plant at least 4 citrus trees on the generous quarter acre lots. When you drive in to the are the abundance of these trees and the distinct character is very clear and quite appealing.
