In Central Phoenix: of Lamas and Ostrich

Despite the rather urban character of Central Phoenix some animals feel righ at home.

zoo in Central Phoenix

One of the peculiarities of Central Phoenix and it's youth is that there remain many ranches in what otherwise is a city in the midst of urbanization.

These ranches, often, many acres in size, are scattered throughout and especially in North Central Phoenix, the Biltmore and Arcadia.

Many are fully functional ranches with animals grazing around.  In Arcadia there are many horse properties, even in the middle of the Biltmore area a few properties have horse privileges, one that comes to mind is a modern Ralph Haver on which we did a feature for PMT.TV.

Then there is North Central Phoenix where many of these sorts of properties remain on the western end along 15th Ave and in the Royal Palm neighborhood.

The photos above are of lamas and ostrich on ranches right along Dunlap Rd. between 7th Ave and 15th Ave: they are just a nose away from the sidewalk. The ostrich are especially curious of passersby, sticking their heads through the fence ready to pluck at something.
