This is where it began for this "the most livable city".  Stately palms, fragrant citrus trees, art galleries, posh resorts, new wave lofts, restaurants and a vibrant club scene all make up this part of town where your more likely to see a younger more hip crowd then North Scottsdale.  As Scottsdale grew north, the older parts of the city deteriorated and some became slummy with uncared for homes, cheap shopping, and a brain drain.  This is now changing<a title="City of Scottsdale Revitalization Program" href="http://www.scottsdaleaz.gov/reinvestment/default.asp" target="_blank">.</a>  The last few years have been a boom for South Scottsdale: <a title="Tribune Article about South Scottsdale" href="http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/story/90082" target="_blank">a complete turn around</a>.  South Scottsdale and the <a title="scottsdale real estate," href="http://www.scottsdaleaz.gov/" target="_blank">Downtown Scottsdale</a> District are back.  This is, now, a young part of town.
