By changing your incandescent bulb to the new, now low, cost compact fluorescent bulbs you will not only save energy, be more green, but also save money.

Getting rid of incandescent light bulbs is a great easy step to take in order to save energy and be more green, but to save money as well. In 2000, I replaced 30 incandescent light bulbs in a 30 unit apartment building. The only bulbs I replaced were on the outside of each apartment unit. The reduction in energy use was immediate and the bulbs paid for themselves in 3 months. After that it was pure savings, and this was when the bulbs cost $6.00 each. Now prices have gone down a lot and there are many choices with different light temperatures. You can now get compact fluorescent (CFL) bulbs that that have a similar glow to the incandescent bulbs we are used to, or the cooler more natural light. Either way it's a "no brainer" as some may say, it makes sense at homes and in businesses. The GE website has a nice energy and money saving calculator which will give you your approximate savings. In our home and our apartment communities we have made this change and our pocket is fuller and energy bill smaller.
